In the shadows of silos

Standing beside towering silos at an Indiana farm on a usual, uninteresting summer afternoon, I was impressed by their structural simplicity and unpretentiousness. Under bland looks lies a clever mechanism to harness gravity and naturally control the flow of grains. Yet the silos also have certain physical and functional limitations, which make the purpose of their existence quite well defined. Metaphorically speaking, a siloed mentality represents human inclination to withhold information flow beyond the confines of their respective factions.
